Pileated Woodpecker

This is the best picture I could get. The Pileated Woodpecker is the biggest woodpecker in this area. My bird book says it is 16.1/2". This is only the second time I've seen one.

I've seen one once before on a remote island in Georgian Bay. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have my camera. I remember how large and powerful these birds was. I followed him around for about 10 minutes, getting within 30 feet of him. Every time he hammered away at a tree, it was so powerful that I could feel the rat-at-tat-tat right in my chest.
Very impressive.
